It’s a New Year!!

if not now, when

I can’t believe how much time has past since I’ve lost wrote a blog post. It’s crazy how the time just seems to zip by. I kept wanting too, but it just didn’t feel right to be one of those bloggers that only occasionally and randomly post things. I notice for me want to follow someones blog, I want someone who is consistent. Your basically following there life and when they just stop blogging all of sudden, you begin to wonder what happened to them and it gets annoying to check the blog and still see the same thing you read last month.

So guys.. new years resolution is to bring this blog back into ACTION! And to actually hopefully succeed past my original goals of having a blog. I want to use this blog has a way to reach people and share my passions with food and fitness and health. I hope to inspire others and answer questions. I want to show you that I’m human and I’m not always healthy and things come up and that doesn’t mean you just shut down your blog and not share those things.

So here is to a new year, a new blog and hopefully providing you with a little bit of joy, laughter and information along the way!

Lets start by sharing last years accomplishments in a nut shell.

  • I completed 2 half marathons – one in napa valley and one in seattle
  • I completed 1 full marathon – NYC BABY! Finally after 2 years of dedication, I did it!
  • I traveled to Kauai, Maui, Vegas, Napa Valley and New York City
  • I ran a lot, laughed a lot, cried some, overcame injuries, and learned a lot

I’m sure there is more that happened last year, but frankly I can’t remember and I’m just ready to move forward into this new year!

This year my focus is finding the balance in life. Focusing more on ME and what my loves and passions are. So let’s start by listing them out.

Here are my goals:

  • build an even stronger fitness foundation
  • stay focused and motivated to do more and be more at work
  • eating clean
  • finding the balance in a having a healthy lifestyle
  • growing more in my faith
  • growing more in love with myself and the people in my life
  • to learn something new this year
  • to try something new this year
  • to run more for fun
  • to run somewhere different or new

To start accomplishing these goals I have joined a crossfit gym and am currently taking part in a 60 day fitness/health challenge with a friend who just started her business with beachbody. The challenge is keeping me honest and helping me eat better. I want to see true results this year. I don’t want to yo-yo back in forth between diets or cleanses or eating strict. I want to truly make a lifestyle change that just happens because it’s who I am. We are 9 days in to the new year and I feel like I’ve made a good start.

I think you find that I’ll be talking quite bit about crossfit and the paleo lifestyle. These two seem to go hand in hand, kind of like peanut butter and jelly and it really isn’t just a “fab” or something people do because they think it’s “healthy”. It’s the real deal and I hope over time and through my blog post I can share the facts and the reasons why these two things are things to fall in love with.

Don’t worry I’ll still talk a lot about running I’m sure.. Just hit a hiatus with running since NYC Marathon and I’m trying to get back into, just seeming to have a hard time finding the time and the motivation. But my love for running has not gone away and It will become more of a focus for me in the near future.


Whole30 Day 4 plus weekend 5k plans

I had a dream last night that today was day 5, but then I couldn’t at my whole30 diary and realized that it was only day 4. Which makes more sense why I woke up feeling like I had drank an entire bottle of wine the night before. I remember this for last time, Day 3 and 4 were the hardest as far as being tired, “hung over”, and cranky. The figuring out what to eat and plan my meals hasn’t been as hard this time around since I’m used to it and it comes more naturally for me than before so that’s made getting through these days a little easier. I know the cravings will get worse before they get better so I’ve made sure to stock up on easy snacks to get through the tough times. I finding that i’m really enjoying apple sauce with a dash of cinnamon and apples with raw almond butter when I’m feeling like a little pick me up. I think the weekend will be a little tough, but I have limited plans am going to focus most of my time on house chores, meal planning and running to keep me busy.

I only have 3 weekends until the seattle half marathon so this saturday i’ll run 11 miles in my training and I also have a 5k race on sunday. I’m excited for the race.. it’s the race I got my PR on last year so I’m hoping to beat it this year. My bf is also going to come watch which is exciting for me since he’s never been to any of my races before.

For my meals this week, I kept it pretty simple. I made a pork roast in my crock pot which has saved me when i’ve been too busy to cook and have been able to bring it for an easy lunch to work. I’ve also been digging this salmon and arugula salad that has snap peas, asparagus, avocado, onion, tomatoes and almonds in and i’ve just been fresh lemon juice and a little hot sauce on it and it’s been delicious! For breakfast I made a batch of pork sausage with onions and apples and just scramble a couple eggs into every morning. Perfect post workout breakfast meal. Larabars and dates have come in handy when i’ve gotten hungry but didn’t have time to make a full meal or just needed a little snack to get through an afternoon. They also make for perfect pre-run food as they don’t give me a side ache.

Just got to stay strong through the weekend and plan my meals ahead for next week and I should be looking good. I’m already noticing the changes and why I love the whole30 and can’t wait to keep seeing and feeling results.

Whole30 Day 1


I did not get as mentally and physically prepared for the whole30 this weekend as I should have, but I’m still ready to start today and will just have to get through the first day not being as prepared until I can go to the store tonight to buy this week’s worth of meals.

Along with the whole30, here are some other goals I’ve set to go along with my plan.

  1. I will eat a full breakfast everyday.
  2. All electronics will be off by 10pm every week night.
  3. I will run 3x time a week and lift 3x a week
  4. I will rest on Sundays and stretch/foam roll after every run.
  5. I will do one outdoor activity a week.
  6. I will read two books in the 30 days.

It’s official I just book my birthday vacation to Kauai and Maui in August with my 5 of my favorite people in the whole wide world! 4 months and counting we will be sitting on the beautiful beaches, relaxing and enjoying all that the hawaiian islands have to offer. Hawaii inspired this blog and I can’t wait to go back and remember how lovely life can be.

Tomorrow is a rest day and I’m so excited for it. It’s supposed to so hot and beautiful here. I think I’ll go for a nice hike and try and work on my tan a little.

Of course like always I was hoping to post a little sooner, but my job is just so crazy right now I hardly have time for anything else. It was pretty nice here last week so I took advantage of the evenings and hung out with friends and ran.


On Wednesday I decided to start the 30 day squat challenge. I wanted to post so you guys could do it with me, but you should still start. You’ll just either need to add in some extra squats to be done on May 23rd or finish a little after me. I decided to take photos so I can hopefully see if all of these squats make a difference. I know at the very least they will help my running, because squats are the one thing I never do enough of in my training. Today, I did my 70 squats while catching up on last week’s American Idol, but tomorrow I’ll do the 75 in the gym with weights. Mondays are my leg days anyways so I’ll just incorporate it into my workout some how. The rest of the days I’ve been doing the squats as my warm-up instead of doing cardio. Feel free to join in, lets shape those booty’s just in time for summer!

This weekend I decided to finally try out running with a running group. I get nervous trying something new, but I hate always running by myself and its time I start hanging out with other runner’s if I want to continue to run. I am so happy I went. The run was a pretty easy 7 miles with a couple of big hills. I found a couple of ladies that had similar pace as me and we were able to talk most of the run which made it go by super fast and I learned a lot while I was running. I am now not as scared and want to go to the track workouts that are on Wednesday nights so I can work on improving my speed. I think it’s exactly what I need to improve my running and work on my PR.

With my boyfriend out of town, the weekends can go by really slow so this weekend I decided to do a little house re-organizing. I’m so happy I did. My house feels more like a home now and it helped made the time go by fast.

This week is another busy one for so I’m sure it’ll go by pretty fast. I can’t believe it’s almost May. I really want to do another whole30 or cleanse for May to get ready for the summer, just haven’t decided what to do and what I’ll be able to do with all food tastings I’ll have for the new restaurant we are opening.

My goals for the week are:
1. To not miss a workout (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
2. To not miss a run (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday)
3. Eat Clean: No gluten, sugar, dairy
4. Do my daily squats for the 30 day challenge
5. Take my dog on at least 2 walks
6. Go to bed before 11
